Windows are the only way we can look out once we are in. Of course, there is the occasional peephole in a door (or even wall), but those are always so small, and the view they provide is distorted. So the window becomes this portal from which to view the place we are not; the place that is on the other side.

During my travels, I take a picture of the window in my hotel room when I wake up in cities that are not my home. Sometimes I don’t open the curtains to look out the window. I like the idea of the window keeping secrets from me.
